一、英語寓言小故事:老鼠和公牛
第一段:
A mouse once took a bite out of a bull's tail as he lay dozing.
譯文:有一次,公牛躺著打盹,一隻老鼠咬了他的尾巴。
The bull jumped up in a rage and, with his head low to the ground, chased the
mouse right across the yard.
譯文:公牛怒氣沖沖地跳起來,低著頭追老鼠,一向追過院子。
The mouse was too quick for him, however, and slipped easily into a hole in the wall.

第二段:
The bull charged the wall furiously again and again, but although he bruised his head
and chipped his horns, the mouse stayed safely inside his hole。

After a time the bull gave up and sank down to rest again。

第一段:
On a vacation trip, Duke Huan of the state of Qi came to the ruin of the capital of Guo
Shi , which perished long ago.
譯文:齊桓公出遊途中,來到已經滅亡許久的郭氏都城的廢墟。
第二段:
Seeing the desolate and bleak prospects of broken tiles, collapsed walls, and clusters
of weeds, he could not help asking the local people about the reason of the ruin of Guo Shi.
譯文:看到瓦礫殘垣、雜草叢生的蕭條景象,忍不住問當地百姓郭氏滅亡的原因。
第三段:
They replied,"Guo Shi was fond of doing good deeds, and averse to evildoing, which led to the perdition."
譯文:百姓們回答說:"郭氏由於喜愛善行善事。厭惡邪惡醜行而導致滅亡。"
第四段:
When the Duke could not understand the answer, people explained ," Though he
liked doing good, he had never been able to do so; though he hated
evildoing, never could he help not participating.That caused the ruin of his capital."
譯文:齊桓公不能理解這種回答,百姓們便解釋說:"郭氏雖然喜愛善行善事,但從來都不能做到;盡管厭惡邪惡醜行,卻總是忍不住參與其中。這就是他的都城變成廢墟的原因。"
三、英語寓言小故事:三個好朋友
One day, a monkey rides his bike near the river.
譯文:一天,一隻猴子在河邊騎車。
This time he sees a lion under a tree, The lion runs at him.
譯文:這時他看見樹下有一隻獅子,獅子向他跑來。
He is afraid and falls into the river.
譯文:他十分的害怕,掉進河裡。
He can』t swim, He shouts.
譯文:他不會游泳,大叫起來。
The rabbit hears him, He jumps into the river, The rabbit swims to the monkey, but

A Man and a Satyr having struck up an acquaintance, sat down together to eat.
譯文:一個人與賽特偶然相識,坐在一齊吃東西。
The day being wintry and cold, the Man put his fingers to his mouse and blew opon them.
譯文:正值冬季,天氣很冷,那人把手放在嘴邊哈氣。
"What's that for, my friend?" asked the Satyr.

" My hands are so cold," said the Man, "I do it to warm them."

In a little while some hot food was placed before them, and the Man, raising the dish to his mouse, again blew opon it.

"And what's the meaning of that, now?" said the Satyr.

"Oh," replied the Man, "my porridge is so hot, I do it to cool it."

"Nay, then," said the Satyr, "from this moment I renounce your friendship, for I
will have nothing to do with one who blows hot and cold with the same mouse."

五、英語小故事:驢和蚱蜢
Ass having heard some Grasshoppers chirping, was highly enchanted; and, desiring
to possess the same charms of melody, demanded what sort of food they lived
on, to give them such beautiful voices.
譯文:一隻驢聽到幾只蚱蜢在叫,便覺得很趣味;於是也想得到同樣趣味的音調,便問蚱蜢吃什麼東西過活,以至於能有這樣優美的聲音。
They replied, "The dew." The Ass resolved that he would only live upon dew, and in
a short time died of hunger.
譯文:蚱蜢說:「露水。」驢子聽了,從此以後也單吃露水過活,不久便餓死了。

英文故事有如下:
1、A PIGEON(鴿子)
A pigeon, oppressed by excessive thirst, saw a goblet of water painted on a signboard. Not supposing it to be only a picture, she flew towards it with a loud whir and unwittingly dashed against the signboard, jarring herself terribly.
Having broken her wings by the blow, she fell to the ground, and was caught by one of the bystanders.
Moral:Zeal should not outrun discretion.

2、The Raven and the Swan(烏鴉和天鵝)
A raven saw a Swan and desired to secure for himself the same beautiful plumage. Supposing that the Swan's splendid white color arose from his washing in the water in which he swam,
the Raven left the altars in the neighborhood where he picked up his living, and took up residence in the lakes and pools. But cleansing his feathers as often as he would, he could not change their color, while through want of food he perished.
Moral:Change of habit cannot alter Nature.

3、The Bat and the Weasels(蝙蝠與黃鼠狼)
Abat who fell upon the ground and was caught by a Weasel pleaded to be spared his life. The Weasel refused, saying that he was by nature the enemy of all birds. The Bat assured him that he was not a bird, but a mouse, and thus was set free.
Shortly afterwards the Bat again fell to the ground and was caught by another Weasel, whom he likewise entreated not to eat him. The Weasel said that he had a special hostility to mice.
The Bat assured him that he was not a mouse, but a bat, and thus a second time escaped.
Moral:It is wise to turn circumstances to good account.

5、The Dog and the Shadow(狗和影子)
It happened that a Dog had got a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now, on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath.
Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more.
Moral:Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow.
翻譯:一隻狗嘴裡銜著一塊肉,走過一條河上面的橋,看見他自己在水裡的影子,以為是另一隻狗,那時狗銜著的肉,比他自己的還要大一倍。
